Autumn Term Highlights

Pictures to come

What a start to Year 5! We began with a history-based topic by learning about ancient Greece, Rome and the Anglo-Saxons in The Great, the Bold and the Brave.

We worked in teams to build paper models inspired by Greek and Roman architecture. This gave us a chance to look closely at some of the common features of buildings from these times and places.

We had a visit from a storyteller who taught us a Roman song, recounted some Greek myths and led some fantastic drama activities. We got to barter in a Roman market and venture into the depths of the Underworld!

We wrote and performed our own plays based on Greek myths, then later in music we wrote songs to add into our plays and make them musical - just like traditional Greek theatre!

We found out about patterns, materials and colours used in traditional Greek and Roman art, and used what we found to design and make plates and pottery in an ancient style. Some of our pottery broke as we were working - we had lots of opportunities to build our resilience!
