Welcome to Year 2. Here you will find everything you and your parents need to know about your year group. Below you will find links to homework, letters and announcements, PE and our class gallery.

In Year 2, each child will have daily phonics/reading lessons. Alongside their phonics sessions, children are taught English where they have the opportunity to develop their writing skills. Children also have their maths lessons where we continue to teach and develop the fundamental skills through the mastery curriculum.

In the Autumn term, we learn all about animals and their habitats. During this unit, we will be spending lots of time outdoors in the wildlife area. We will also be exploring the wildlife area and developing our outdoor learning skills. Another one of our exciting topics is called 'From A to B' where we learn about transport. We will look at the history of transport and transport from around the world!

In the Spring Term, we have a big focus on Science. We learn all about buildings. We look at what materials buildings are made of, what buildings looked like in the past and what sort of buildings other children might live in from different countries. Two of our other units that we look at in the Spring term are called 'Look and Listen' where we learn all about sight and sound and 'It's Shocking', which is all about electricity.

During the Summer term, we have two main focus of learning. Our first lot of learning is all about 'The Magic Toymaker' where we learn about different types of toys and the toys that your grown-ups used to play with when they were children! We also learn about history through a unit of learning called 'Time Travellers'.

Forest School

We will do Forest School at different times over the course of the year and we will let you know if the children need to bring in footwear or waterproofs.

PE

We have PE on Thursdays. Come to school in your PE kits.  You may wear trainers and a blue jumper or cardigan over your PE kit. The children will not be getting changed in school.

Changing reading books

Please make sure that your child brings their reading diary and reading books to school every day
