A Warm Welcome Every Day: Stoke Damerel’s Breakfast and After School Club Thrives

At Stoke Damerel, everything we do is for the children and our Breakfast and After School Club (BASC) is a shining example of that commitment. Designed to give pupils a fun, safe, and engaging start and end to their school day, the club has quickly become a valued part of school life.
With a wide range of activities, tasty food and drink, and the chance to spend time with friends, the BASC offers more than just childcare - it creates a positive, nurturing environment where children can thrive. Whether it’s playing games, enjoying a healthy breakfast, or winding down after a busy day, pupils are always eager to return.
“We know that children come into school more settled and ready to learn when they’ve had a happy, calm start to the day,” said Headteacher Annie Blackie. “This provision is really all about the children and making sure they have a positive and exciting start and end to the school day; they always want to come back!”
The club has also been a great support for working parents and carers, offering peace of mind that their children are well looked after in a welcoming setting. Thanks to a capital grant from Plymouth City Council, the academy has been able to enhance the physical environment of the BASC, transforming it into a child-friendly, inviting space that reflects the school’s values.
Feedback from both children and parents has been overwhelmingly positive, and attendance continues to grow - proof that the club is meeting a real need in the community.
At Stoke Damerel, we’re proud to offer a provision that supports our families and puts children’s happiness and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.
