Reading

This week in our reading sessions we will be focussing on key events from WWII and thinking about how some of these events changed Plymouth.
Timetable for the week

Monday 29th June, 2020

Read through the text ‘Air Raid’ on page 96 of your workbook and answer the questions on page 97.

Tuesday 30th June and Wednesday 1st July, 2020

Read through the information about 'Plymouth in the Blitz' in the Resources section below and then look at the photos on the following website:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Blitz#/media/File:Union_Street_before_World_War_II.jpg

You have two days to complete this task.

One of the purposes of reading is to create an image in the reader’s head.  Two people could read the same text, but different pictures may spring into their minds depending on how they interpret the words, or which words are important to them.

Your task for the next two days is:

  1. Use the pictures and information from the text to draw an image of Plymouth in the Blitz.
  2. Annotate your picture with facts and figures, using evidence from the text.

We would love to see your pictures so please take a photo and email them in for us to see.

Thursday 2nd July, 2020

Just a few weeks ago, on 8th May, we celebrated VE Day (Victory in Europe). Continuing our World War 2 theme this week, please read through the text and answer the questions.  The answers are at the end – but no peeking until you’ve answered the questions!

Friday 3rd July, 2020

Reading for Pleasure.

You may either read your home reading book or watch the following Horrible Histories about the Home Guard (mentioned in Monday’s reading comprehension task).  You may of course do both!
